Week 14 Highlights

Centennial gets another win! Well, actually we weren’t suited up this week but got to share some “together time” at BWW’s. That’s always a winner. That’s to everyone that played this year, subs and regulars. Again thanks to all the fans, even the new one, Sylvie! Go Dad Go! If any of you have photos I’d love to post them. Send them via e-mail to hwnara@q.com. Stay cool the rest of the summer and we hope to see everyone again next year. FYI, the playoffs ended in a very predictable fashion, teams 1, 2, 3 & 4 played their last games while we ate and watched the Twins. Team 1 and 2 played in the championship with Culver’s coming out on top just like they did in the regular season.

Week 13 Highlights

Centennial gets a win! The drought is over. Teams Buns succumbed (16-10) to our impressive hitting, moving us past round one of the playoffs. There were some difficult moments but our defense held back the upset minded Buns team in the end. The win put CUMC in a new situation, a victory… no… a double header! No time to celebrate, get back on the field and play the first place Culver’s team. In the second game of the night, Centennial jumped out to a 5 run lead after the first inning. Culver’s was visibly upset, struggling to get a hit at the outset of the game. We knew they would not rollover, they have too many good hitters. Even after two double plays and a lot of hard work by Centennial, Culver’s hitters drove in runs by batting around our outfielders at mid-game. A couple home runs later it was clear who had their ticket punched for next week’s round three. Even though scoring 7 runs in a game would have made it close during the regular season, we were outmatched 7-21 in our final game. The fans were leaving the stadium before it was over. One dedicated fan was overheard muttering to himself, “this is just too painful to watch.” The team felt the same way by the end. Our level of conditioning at this point makes a double header tough after the adrenaline has been sweated out of your body. Thanks to all the fans this season, except for this one, there were a lot of exciting close games.

Final Playoff Games: Thursday, July 28st @ 6, 7 & 8pm. Arden Hills Perry Park #2

Week 12 Highlights

The “Giggles” had the last laugh this week to end our regular season with 4 wins and 8 losses. Once again they jumped out to an early lead. This time it turned out to be large enough to hold back our late game run at victory. We supported our come-back with solid hitting but the 10-12 loss puts us in the 7th seed position in the playoffs. This means we will be playing the early round next Thursday against the number 8 seed, Team Buns.  Assuming we hold back an upset, we will face the number 1 seed Culvers in round 2 immediately following. Centennial started the season 3-0 so our final record of 4-8 seems disappointing. The encouraging part of this year is that we really only had one collapse in 12 games. The games were fun and exciting but we feel our record does not reflect our effort in 2011. We performed well enough for victory every week regardless of the records posted by the teams we played against. As I look at the season ending stats, we were number 7 in total offense based on total runs but we were 4th overall in defense by the same measure. Let’s move some base runners around the bags next week for a victory in round 1!

Week 11 Highlights

Where is that next win going to come from?! Centennial drops to 4 and 7 in another fun and exciting game with a tough Streckers team at the top of the standings. We are showing that we can play with every team in our league but are still falling short of victory. This week’s 5-7 loss to a focused opponent boosts our confidence but a victory is what we are gunnin’ for! A tough call at 2nd base late in the game could of given CUMC a critical 2nd out. Even smoothing out that bump near 3rd base that keeps stearing out throws to the fence line might change the outcome of some of these games. Let’s bring everyone home next week with that solid hitting and great defense that we know we’re capable of. After our come from behind win in the last outing with the “Giggles” team, they will play us tough in the last regular season game. Come on down and cheer the team on. Go Fans!

Week 10 Highlights

Our competition “caught” a victory from us in our 4-10 loss. There was no “stealin’” a victory from Centennial this time. Caught Stealin’s consistent play late in the season is moving them up in the standings while an oppressive heat wave drenched both teams in their own perspiration. CUMC demonstrated strong defense again through most of the game but our few lapses were not to be made up by swingin’ the bats this week. Many runners waited in the high humidity to be driven around the bases but the hits couldn’t find the holes for their trips home. Now we’re the ones looking to salvage some wins as we move to the end of the regular season. The next obstacle is a Streckers team that also needs a win to stay on the top of the pile in the standings for the playoffs. We are now in a pack of 4-6 teams looking for that 4th or 5th seed out of 10 teams with 2 games left. Still a lot of exciting softball left!

Week 9 Highlights

“Wow, what a heart breaker!” 5 innings of impressive defense against a 7-1 Culvers team collapsed late in the game. Centennial’s bats were hitting the gaps to produce a 7-3 margin going into the 6th inning. Our defense again showed great skill but we knew it would have to last all 7 innings in order to achieve a win. The gaps for our hitters closed while unfortunate bounces, a single shot home run, and a critical walk opened the flood gates for the Culvers group to run through their batting lineup. Centennial failed to produce a third out to end the fateful inning and had to accept the 7-17 loss. The squad drops to 4-5 and faces a win minded “Stealin’” team that wants to salvage a rough season by avenging an early loss to CUMC. We will need our fan support next week to guide us to victory while vacations will force us deep into the sub rotation.

Week 8 Highlights

Centennial’s bats were finally released from the cave for a 14-9 victory over their opponents. An early defensive struggle turned sour in the 4th inning as the “Giggles” team started an impressive hitting demonstration, working around our fielders. Down 1-7, Centennial mounted a comeback in the same inning that produced 12 runs following a timely double to right field that started some movement around the bases. The whole team jumped into batting practice, moving the ball around the Giggles defense. Our team held tight the last two innings allowing only two more runs, adding one of our own. We are back to 4-4 but the schedule is challenging to finish the season. A tough Culvers team will test our field coverage but if the bats get released again we might see an upset.

Next Game: Thursday, June 23rd @ 7pm. Arden Hills Perry Park #1 vs Culvers
